9/9/21: New Space

With the boat now moved, there is some urgency to get the boat covered. This task requires tools and preferably a workshop. The new basement was fully finished, and required extensive demolition and removal–two sinks, stove, refrigerator, washer, dryer, toilet, bath/shower stall, and all the associated plumbing, lighting, and wiring, not to mention the walls, framing, doors, drop-ceiling, and thousands of square feet of fiberglass insulation that was stuffed into every possible nook and cranny. From my estimation, the basement was finished in about 1985. What follows are a few photos of the basement as it was when I purchased the home:

The amount of demolition waste would have filled many dumpsters, but I took all to the transfer station, one truckload at a time. Here the demo is nearly complete. Looking west:

Looking East:

Most of the basement’s electrical outlets and switches were installed in the walls, and are now gone. I designated a 15-A breaker to basement lighting and installed about 10 outlets to support whatever lighting will develop over time.

The storage racks in my old workshop and storage unit were in the garage, but now have been moved into the basement.

Two 20-A breakers have been designated for outlets used for corded tools (table saw, planer, miter saw, etc.). I’ve installed 5 outlets. After rebuilding my two workbenches and moving some tools, I now have a functioning workshop again. The pictures below show the current state.

Looks like you are ready for anything!! Enjoy your added space. Much bigger than Camp Ave.

  2. Awesome, Mike! Looks like it will be a nice space. Heated in the winter?

    • Thanks Trish! The only source of heat in the basement is the boiler, which doesn’t directly heat the space. Will see if I need to supplement once it gets cold.
